DIY Cupcake Carrier

I know there are all sorts of fancy contraptions for transporting cupcakes, but they're kind of pricey, and you've got to remember to schlep them home with you once the cupcakes are gone.  So, this Friday, while baking cupcakes to take to a birthday party downtown, I came up with this DIY disposable cupcake carrier that I wouldn't have to worry about bringing home or getting back.

It was easy, and only required supplies I already had.  Here's how I made it:

I began with a Victoria's Secret gift box.

To help make the gift box more sturdy, I cut a piece of cardboard to fit inside the bottom.  Before I put it in the box, I wrapped the piece of cardboard in parchment paper.

Next, I cut a piece of scrapbook paper to fit the top of the box, and glued it on with a little spray adhesive.

Then, I turned over the top of the box, traced a circle using one of my kitchen bowls as a template, and cut it out with a pair of scissors.

I stretched a piece of plastic wrap over the opening and taped it in place.

And, I used a sharpie to personalize the box for the birthday girl, "J.Rob," one of my most favorite people, ever.

Here's how the box looked filled with cupcakes - a baker's dozen in total.

And, even though cooking isn't my thing, the cupcakes turned out quite well too.  I followed this recipe for simple white cake from allrecipes.com.  I used a sharp knife to hollow out the middle of the each cupcake to make more room for frosting, and I'm glad I did because the frosting turned out to be especially tasty- it's the buttercream frosting recipe from the back of the Ghirardelli baking coca can.

This is more followable then glueing things and other stupid tortials I've found online. We have a couple old christmas boxes and I can label wich are regular and which are sugar free and even if we don't have Christmas boxes I can find that sized boxed and parchment paper easily not that parchment paper is totally necessary if cupcakes are wrapped which will be. But I can do this. Or at least something similar and use this as idea basis. I probably need slightly larger boxes then you used but that's ok I'd rather not have to worry about some container or go and buy expensive. Cupcake carrier. Thi is one time thing to one place cause this yr 4 ppls bday fall with in a week on either side of Thanksgiving and and as much as I hate Thanksgiving. I can treat it more as bday party in head. I want to do this special for the others and,my bday is day after so I can leave couple of regular ones at ones at home for me to enjoy next day.
