Strawberries for Anne

Strawberries for Anne, not to be confused with Blueberries for Sal- although that book has great illustrations in case you're on the hunt for some free art like I made for my kitchen and desk.

Anyhow, I digress.

Yesterday, July 3, was visiting day at Camp Carysbrook, a sleepway camp where my baby sister Anne is working as the counselor in charge of Rec Sports this summer.  Before we set out on the 270 mile drive to visit Anne, I quick whipped up these fourth of July strawberries for her.

The inspiration for these came from a  picture I saw on allrecipes.com.

First, I washed and dried the strawberries.

Following the melting directions on the back of the bag of Nestle Toll House white chocolate chips, I put all 12oz of white chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl and added two tablespoons of vegetable shortening.

I microwaved the bowl for one minute at 70%, and then stirred:

Since all the chips weren't completely melted yet, I put it back in the microwave for 10 seconds at 100%.

Meanwhile, I poured some Wilton blue sugar sprinkles into a dipping-friendly bowl.

And, with the chocolate and sugar ready, I began to dip.

I placed the finished strawberries on cookie tray lined with parchment paper.   Once they were all done, I put the tray in the refrigerator for 10 minutes to help the chocolate harden.

I think Anne really liked them...or at least I assume she did because as soon as I gave them to her she ran to stash them in her cabin for safe-keeping.

Hope you've been having a great three-day weekend.  As always, thanks for reading.  Please don't forget to sign-up to become a Very Fond Of subscriber if you haven't already (details here).  Happy birthday America!
